Sarah Palin on the cover of Newsweek

Sexist or not? What do you think?

Is the current cover better than this one?

Media Matters discusses the photo choices that accompany the story too. You can read the analysis here.

I thought Media Matters did a thorough job supporting the claim of sexism in the use of the photo and in the content of the article (more photos, tone, etc). However, I must point out that Ms. Palin didn’t do herself any favors during the campaign with the winking and cutesy responses (to me it sounded like, ‘look at me. do I NEED to know substantive information about national policy??’). The contrast between her empty shell and Hillary Clinton’s depth of experience and knowledge remain striking.
It could be on Fitness mag. In fact it was taken by Runner’s World mag. But how about the fact Newsweek repurposed it? Would they have done the same for a prominent male? Are they making the point Palin is all fluff and no substance and therefore the photo merely punctuates the story inside? Does the photo merely sum up Palin’s campaign?
~~~~Liz, this photo could be on “Fitness” magazine. I think it’s very appropriate and Palin looks healthy, fit, and happy. I would love to hear what other people think
PS. Would I vote for her? No! But I do not think the photo is sexist. If I had legs like that, I’d pose, too! Don’t get mad at me!!! LOL
