And we have a winner. This week’s Ignorant Legislator of the Week is county councilman John Koster, a a Republican candidate for U.S. Congress in Washington. When asked his views on abortion, Koster said, “When a mother’s life is in danger … I’m not going to make that decision,” and, ”Incest is so rare, I mean, it’s so rare. But the rape thing, you know, I know a woman who was raped and kept her child, gave it up for adoption. She doesn’t regret it. In fact, she is a big pro-life proponent.” He continued, ”But on the rape thing, it’s like, how does putting more violence onto a woman’s body and taking the life of an innocent child that’s a consequence of this crime, how does that make it better?”
The rape thing? Does he mean rape? And why, oh why, is another member of the GOP who will never get pregnant from rape, talking about it?
Listen for yourself.

Pudge, sorry if I wasn’t clear. I think it’s ignorant to call rape “the rape thing”. I think it’s ignorant to pontificate on something you don’t know about. I think it’s ignorant to legislate based on the feelings of one woman you know. I think it’s ignorant to imply it’s the victim who should bear the consequences of a crime.
Jen, Why don’t they just stop? Akin, Mourdock, now Koster.
You forgot to explain how he is ignorant. You described very well how you find his word choice to be uneloquent, but that’s not the same thing. Try again, maybe?
“But the rape thing?” Seriously! Said like a ‘man’ who never bore a child or has never been the victim of violence.
Does thing person have a wife and daughters because I don’t know how he looks them in the eye after saying such nonsense.
