Monday Memo: Set Goals

Have you set your goals for 2013? Different from resolutions which are often aspirational and unattainable, goals should be smart:specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely.

I just reviewed the goals I set for myself in 2012. I achieved 60 percent of them. And even in the areas I can’t cross off as complete, I am better of for having set a goal. I didn’t hit my running target, for example, but I ran more miles in 2011 than I did in 2010 while trying to hit my goal. And I still don’t have a new kitchen, but I do have new walls and a new ceiling. Progress.

Why not take 15 minutes today and set some goals for 2013? If you don’t make a plan, how do you now where you’re headed?
